Pernicious Anemia in Patients with Primary Biliary Cirrhosis, Autoimmune Hepatitis, and Chronic Viral Hepatitis

چکیده
Autoimmune Liver Diseases (ALDs) include Auto Immune Hepatitis (AIH), Primary Biliary Cirrhosis (PBC), and Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC). Pernicious Anemia (PA) involves an autoimmune process in which atrophy of the gastric mucosa reduces the production of Intrinsic Factor (IF) via parietal cells, inducing vitamin B12 deficiency and megaloblastic anemia [1-5]. Although autoimmune diseases often coexist in patients, cases of concomitant PA and ALD are rarely reported. Moreover, Interferon (IFN) treatment may rarely induce PA in patients with viral hepatitis [6-11].

Chronic Liver diseases in children is the result of many different diseases including: metabolic, genetic, infectious, toxic and idiopathic causes. This was a case series study on 133 infants and children with age range 6 month to 12 years old, who presented clinically with manifestation of chronic liver disease and were admitted to Children Hospital Medical Center from year 1999 to 2000. In th...
متن کاملHospital admissions for vitamin D related conditions and subsequent immune-mediated disease: record-linkage studies
BACKGROUND Previous studies have suggested that there may be an association between vitamin D deficiency and the risk of developing immune-mediated diseases. METHODS We analyzed a database of linked statistical records of hospital admissions and death registrations for the whole of England (from 1999 to 2011). Rate ratios for immune-mediated disease were determined, comparing vitamin D defici...
متن کاملPrevalence of autoantibodies to the p53 protein in autoimmune hepatitis.
The target antigens of anti-nuclear autoantibodies in autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) are poorly characterised. Since antibodies to the p53 nuclear protein have been reported in various autoimmune diseases, we have assessed the prevalence of these antibodies in patients with AIH (n = 45), primary biliary cirrhosis (n = 60), hepatitis B (n = 22), hepatitis C (n = 55), and in a control group of subjec...

Introdution: Primary biliary cirrhosis is a chronic cholestatic disease of the liver, characterized by the inflammation plus progressive and non-purulent destruction of the small biliary ducts, and the presence of auto antibodies against mitochondrial self-antigens. It seems that the prevalence of PBC in the western world is more than other parts of the world. This study aimed to identify all t...
متن کاملCeliac disease and liver
L and La Rosa (1) investigated the occurrence of celiac disease in patients with hepatitis B by screening their sera with anti-endomysial and anti-tissue transglutaminase antibodies—both of which are sensitive serological tests for celiac disease. The authors found no one with celiac disease in 60 patients who had contracted hepatitis B infection in childhood. As they admitted, the power of the...
